OBSERVATIONS, our Annual Journal, consists of a collection of articles, mainly submitted by members. Many of the contributions are definitely scientific, while others are more lightweight, even humorous in tone, reflecting one of the Society's main aims - that of promoting the sheer enjoyment to be had from natural history.
The majority of articles are on various aspects of Derbyshire wildlife, including accounts of field outings and other activities of the Society. There are also write-ups of trips made further afield, including interesting holidays made by members. I have attempted to make Observations attractive by including numerous illustrations, many of photographs taken by members and other contributors in full colour, and making the layout eye-catching. However, its main appeal lies in the high quality of the articles submitted.
The 2011 Edition of Observations is available to non-members for £2.50. Please email me if you would like a copy.
YOU ARE INVITED TO SUBMIT MATERIAL TO OBSERVATIONS, 2012 ISSUE
Contributions on aspects of Derbyshire's natural history from non members will also be eligible for inclusion In OBSERVATIONS .
The appearance and interest of the journal is greatly increased by illustrations. If you are artistic, then please accompany any written work with your drawings. Original photographs are also most welcome (although colour photographs will be rendered in black and white). Otherwise, indicate the subject of any pictures you would like me to provide to illustrate your article. Drawings and photographs can be submitted in their own right.
I would welcome any material sent by e-mail, with anything longer than an A4 page as attached files. I am afraid that I can't pay a fee for any work included in the journal - you are asked to contribute for the sheer pleasure of seeing your work in print, and knowing that you are contributing to the study of Derbyshire's natural history and to the enjoyment of the people reading your work. My deadline for receipt of material is the end of January, 2012.
